Plants: We are family

Researchers have found that some plants respect family; they can distinguish between those that are related to it and those that are not. According the the NY TImes, it comes down to a fairly simple response:
If the sea rocket detects unrelated plants growing in the ground with it, the plant aggressively sprouts nutrient-grabbing roots. But if it detects family, it politely restrains itself.
